When it comes down to historical architecture Edinburgh, Scotland is the place to visit. No matter where you walk it is like stepping back in time. The Edinburgh Castle which is actually a collection of buildings starts the Royal Mile. Started in the 12th century the St. Giles Cathedral has both Renaissance and Gothic features. The Palace Of Holyroodhouse, used as both a monestary and palace at one time, sits at the other end of the Royal Mile. And that is just to name a few.

But at the end of the day sight seeing does not need to end. Why not say in one on the many historical hotels in Edinburgh ? How about a 16th century turreted hotel located on the Royal Mile, or perhaps a 13th century castle set on the River Esk. When it comes down to great historical architecture the options are limitless.
